作品紹介 Kankichi Promo Video
『折り紙プロモーター』です。
（主だった活動は新しいくす玉のデザイン発信）

an Origami Promotor.
(who specializes in Kusudama Paper Balls)
フルタイムの仕事を持っているので、
そちらを退職するまでは
『折り紙アーティスト』と名乗ることを
控えようと思っています。
Since I have a full-time occupation
other than origami activities,
I would rather not call myself a 'designer' or an 'artist'
(at least until I retire from that job)
現在カナダのバンクーバー近郊に在住。
ですが、国籍で言うと100％日本人です。
I live in a sub-urban area of Vancouver (Richmond)
for more than a quarter century now, but
have 100% Japanese blood (J-immigrant).
思えば、
I recall...
自分が「くす玉」というものに遭遇したのは
1999年のことだったんですよね。
In1999, I have encountered the 1st kusudama in my life.
台湾から来た留学生の青年が紙を器用に切り分け、
折って球体に組み上げていくのを
目の前で見る機会があったからです。
That day, I happened to see a teenager from Taiwan
making a basic sonobe (method) kusudama in a public place.
あ、でも正直、、、うん、、、。
その時はそれほど強い印象はなかったんですよ。
I remember what I've seen 'that day' clearly,
But to be honest, the experience did not
quite make me have goose-bumps or anything.
(= it wasn't as sensational as you might think it would be).
自分でもなぜその日その時だったか
分からないんですが、、、
（ほぼ衝動的に）
世界的に有名な折り紙作家
布施知子さんの「柘榴」という作品に
挑戦して（＝作って）みたんです。
ネット（多分YouTubeだったと思う）を見ながらですよ。
Though interestingly enough, 4 years after that…
I came across an instruction while browsing on internet,
and made my first kusudama.
(that was totally spontaneous!)
That Kusudama is called ‘Zakuro' ( Pomegranate):
designed by the world famous origami designer,
Tomoko Fuse.
結構まごまごしつつ
でもやっとのことで完成して
丸ーーい綺麗な玉になった時、
何っとも言えない達成感に包まれて
、、、
いやーあれこそ本当にセンセーショナルでした！
見るのと実際に作ってみるのと
こんなに違うか〜って!!
When completed the assembly,
I was extremely happy.
and at the same time hit by a massive urge
to share this ‘great achievement’
with everyone I know
(and others too).
Seeing is believing. No.
"Making is believing."
Thaaaaat's it!!
かくして、
Well, as result...
その感動を胸に2014年春、
自分はおりがみカンキチとして
Youtube のチャンネルを開設することにしました。
気がつけばもう10年近くオリジナルのくす玉デザインを
動画やInstagramに載せて世界に発信し続けています。
With embracing that indescribable feeling,
in the spring of 2014,
I have launched my Kankichi Youtube Channel,
and that was when I started to introduce
my original kusudama designs
towards the world.
Oh, I recently started Instagram as well:)
Now I enjoy connecting with many
origami enthusiasts out there and learning more
about this wonderful art of origami myself.
